OLLIE had a visit from Dr Slade- The Old Mill Veterinary Surgery today, to do a full health check. We needed to ascertain IF and how we could help OLLIE, what would be the best and kindest option for the little fella.
Dr Slade did a thorough health check on OLLIE and found that he does have a heart murmur, he suspected Ollie has liver issues and found a rather nasty molar ( tooth) at the very back of his jaw which is in need of attention.
Blood samples were taken and very quickly Dr Slade had the results back to us.
The results revealed that OLLIE does indeed have some liver issues but Dr Slade is hopeful that with medication, we can turn this damage around he is also anemic which thankfully is also reversible.
PLUS…the news we would all like to hear about ‘ourselves’ when having a health check…he is YOUNGER than we first thought, we can wind the clock back for OLLIE from a suspected 27 to around a 22 years of age…. Great news for OLLIE.
So, the plan for the next 6 weeks is;
To gradually increase his feeds. We have the EAQ team feeding him about 6 times a day atm, in small to increasing amounts.
We will give him twice weekly Vitamin B Complex injections .
In six weeks time, we will again assess how much OLLIE has picked up and then, if all is good, we will have Dr Slade do his teeth and his Hendra.
All in all- happy news.
We would however really love your help…. OLLIE’S first vet bill is $366.00, obviously we have a bit of a road to travel and some expenses coming up.
PLEASE help us to give OLLIE a new start.
We’re helping horses, you can too!
